Only five Ukrainian citizens applied for the refugee status in
Belgorod region of Russia

Press-office of Russian Federal Migration Service in Belgorod region
does not confirm the overflow of refugees from Ukraine. Оnly five
citizens of Ukraine have submitted applications to obtain the refugee
status lately, says Liudmila Skripnik, press-officer of regional
migration service.

“During the last 2 days, as for 3 pm today 16 people have referred to
find out how to obtain refugee status in Belgorod region. I mean
people from Ukraine. 5 of them have already submitted official
applications for obtaining the refugee status. They were mainly young
people (younger than 27 years). They are from Odessa, Mykolaiv,
Kharkiv regions and from town of Kupiansk. We do not have any enormous
number of refugees and we haven’t given such information.

As RIA Novosti reported on March 1, the governors of Russian regions
bordering Ukraine stated that there are flee of refugees from Ukraine.
Agency quoted particularly Evgeniy Savchenko, the governor of Belgorod
region: “Belgorod region is filled up with the overflow of refugees
from Ukraine. Thousands of good people came here and some of them not
from South-Western part, but also from the Central Ukraine, they flee
from the radicals who reached the power in Kyiv”.
