A number of pro-Russian resources have shared a photo of a lot that allegedly appeared at an auction in London: the so-called «Freedom Pot» from the Revolution of Dignity. The starting price of this lot is allegedly 15 thousand pounds. The Russian audience mostly reacted to the news with mockery and ridicule.

But this news is completely made up. We were unable to find evidence online of such an artifact existing and being sold at an auction in London. Moreover, a Google image search indicates that this photo was published only in Russian sources. Using the Osavul tool, we were able to identify the original source of the fake — the propaganda channel KRYMINFORUM. This source is part of a network of Telegram channels that appeared in the temporarily occupied territories after the full-scale invasion, and whose purpose is to promote pro-Kremlin narratives among the residents of these regions.

In the Russian information space, Ukrainians and people with a pro-Ukrainian position are often called «pot-heads» («кастрюлеголові»). This word refers to the events of 2014, when during the protests on Maidan Nezalezhnosti the government banned protesters from wearing masks or helmets at rallies. The public was outraged by this violation of the right to peaceful protests and began wearing pots on their heads as an act of defiance. Although pots were not considered an established symbol of protest in Ukraine, propagandists still regularly post photos from those times and ridicule the appearance of protesters.

We previously refuted a similar fake in the article Fake: Ukrainian Refugees Broke a Museum Artefact — «Van Gogh’s Сhair».
