The story by the British tabloid The Sun on this topic is fabricated, and the comment by a royal expert in it is taken from an old video on a completely different topic.
Pro-Russian sources are spreading another news about the Zelenskys’ allegedly sensationally expensive purchases. This time, propagandists have accused the first lady of allegedly buying Princess Diana’s legendary dress for $2.9 million. The video with the logo of the British tabloid The Sun claims that this purchase was the real reason for Prince Harry’s recent visit to Ukraine. He gave Olena Zelenska a dress that previously belonged to the prince’s wife, Meghan Markle.

But in reality, this story is another Russian propaganda fake. The Sun tabloid did not publish a story on this topic, it was fabricated by propagandists. The royal expert’s comment used in the video was taken from a 2022 interview — Richard Fitzwilliams was actually talking about the release of a Netflix documentary series about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Fitzwilliams responded to the Russian hoax: «It’s a particularly horrible forgery. The Sun never put this out. … The tastelessness of its content speaks for itself. It is a great pity legal action cannot be taken against the perpetrators of something so outrageous». The Sun’s head of communications, Elizabeth Morton, also confirmed that they did not release this video.
Moreover, the «revenge dress», a black evening gown that Princess Diana wore in 1994, does not belong to Meghan Markle and never did. In 1997, the dress was bought by a Scottish couple, Bridge and Graeme Mackenzie, at a Christie’s charity auction for 39,000 pounds. They used it to raise money for charity, and later donated it to the collection of the Museum of Style Icons in the Irish city of Newbridge. The dress is the centerpiece of a permanent exhibition dedicated to Princess Diana’s style.

We have already refuted another fake about Prince Harry’s recent visit to Ukraine in the article Fake: Prince Harry Met with a Boy Injured in a Fire, Set by a Drunk Mother — Ukraine Tried to Pass Him Off as a War Victim. Russian propaganda regularly spreads fakes about the so-called expensive purchases of the Zelensky family: most recently, we debunked the news that Volodymyr Zelensky allegedly bought a house that belonged to the Nazi party in Germany for 14 million euro.
