Some media, Telegram channels and social media users spread disinformation that total mobilization awaits Ukraine soon and that the government allegedly plans to forcefully draft about 80% of men. They were referring to the words of the Lviv head of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support.
The disinformation was spread because of an interview with the head of the Lviv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support Oleksandr Tyshchenko to the Leopolis media source. In it, the head of the Centre stated that only about 20% of those who should be drafted according to the Centre’s plan come voluntarily. Half of them sign a contract with the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the rest undergo drafting service. Oleksandr Tyshchenko did not declare any total mobilization or forced drafting of 80% of men. To sum up, the interview claimed that only 20% of conscripts, who must be recruited according to the Centre’s plan, come voluntarily.
The Strategic Communications Department of the Ukrainian Armed Forces drew attention to the fact that the information about the drafting of 80% of men has been widely distributed in local groups and chats of popular messengers during the last day. The Strategic Communications Department warns that such publications and reports are false, and their purpose is to discredit recruitment measures in Ukraine and spread panic among Ukrainians.
As a reminder, according to the decision of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, martial law and general mobilization will continue for another 90 days, starting from August 18. However, there is no mention of any additional conditions and decisions on increasing the volume of mobilization.
