Polish General Waldemar Skrzypczak did not talk about the West supposedly preparing a coup in Belarus. Skrzypczak emphasized that events similar to those that recently took place in the Belgorod region are quite likely to occur in Belarus in the event of a successful advancement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the Polish military officer, it is the citizens of Belarus who may potentially rise against the self-proclaimed regime of President Lukashenko in the future. He stated that Poland should be prepared for this and support a democratic uprising in the neighboring country.

Information claiming that Poland has allegedly announced the “Western preparation for a coup in Belarus” is being widely spread on social media and Russian websites. “Poland is preparing for an armed coup in Belarus and is ready to support it militarily, said former Deputy Minister of Defense, General Waldemar Skrzypczak, on Polsat channel. Thus, he confirmed the words of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko about such plans by the West,” writes the Russian website RIA Novosti. Polish general words, as claimed by numerous media sources, only confirm Alexander Lukashenko’s statements that “the West plans to invade Belarusian territory to destroy the country”.

In reality, General Waldemar Skrzypczak did not say anything about the West preparing a coup in Belarus. Such claims by Russian media are yet another manipulation. Waldemar Skrzypczak, former commander of the Polish Land Forces, stated on the program Gość Wydarzeń on Polsat News that actions similar to those that recently occurred in the Belgorod region are possible in Belarus. However, the “West” has no connection to it.

“If the Ukrainian counteroffensive is successful, those armed Belarusians who are part of the Ukrainian army will not lay down their weapons. They will go to Belarus. I hope this will provoke an uprising in Belarus, which is what Lukashenko fears,” Skrzypczak said. The Polish general also stated that his country should be prepared for such a scenario so as to “not miss this moment.”

“We need to be prepared to support the forces that will carry out an operation against Lukashenko. We have reasons to help them, just as we help Ukrainians,” the general emphasized. According to him, “the Belarusian people will support their military and eagerly rise against Lukashenko.” “He (Lukashenko) no longer has the military potential to prevent such an uprising. Russia will not help him much because it will have its own problems,” Polsat News quotes Skrzypczak as saying. Additionally, Waldemar Skrzypczak advised to prepare for the outflow of Belarusians into Poland if such an uprising occurs.

Thus, General Skrzypczak never said that “the West is preparing a coup” in Belarus. According to the Polish military officer, the driving force behind a possible uprising in Belarus could only be citizens of that country who disagree with the policies of self-proclaimed President Lukashenko. Moreover, Skrzypczak emphasized that Poland can help Belarus in the same way it helps Ukraine: with resources and support for refugees.
