The video is a fabrication. Al Jazeera has not published any investigation on this topic. In reality, UK, France, and Germany have led an international coalition countering Iran’s blockade and pushing for the restoration of freedom of navigation.

A video clip with the Al Jazeera logo is circulating online, claiming that in March 2026, Britain, France, and Germany secretly transmitted intelligence on the movements of American troops in the region to Iran. In return, Iran allegedly agreed to waive transit fees for vessels belonging to TotalEnergies, BP, Shell, Wintershall Dea, and Uniper.

The video is a fabrication. StopFake found no evidence that Al Jazeera published any such report. The narrator’s voice in the clip is AI-generated, and a keyword search on aljazeera.com returns no relevant results. The Al Jazeera logo was used to make this fake look like a credible media report. The fake was first published by the account @TheQNewsPatriot on X — a source that has previously served as a source of disinformation and is linked to the bot network Storm-1516, which StopFake has covered in greater detail in a separate story.

No credible international outlet has published information suggesting that NATO member states shared intelligence on American troop movements with Iran. The complete absence of such information in any serious source is itself evidence that this is a deliberate disinformation operation designed to undermine trust among allies.

The fake deliberately distorts real events. In reality, the UK, France and Germany are not partners of Iran; quite the opposite. They have taken the lead in organizing international resistance to Iran’s blockade. After hostilities in the American-Iranian war blocked shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, these three countries spearheaded efforts to establish an international maritime mission to protect commercial vessels. In early April, London convened the foreign ministers of 40 countries to coordinate measures aimed at restoring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. On April 17, Macron, Starmer, and Merz met at the Élysée Palace to coordinate a joint defense mission — defined from the outset as “purely defensive” in nature, encompassing the interception of missiles, drones, and fast attack boats, as well as mine-clearing operations in the strait, and deployable only following the conclusion of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran. Chancellor Merz emphasized that any German participation would require a clear legal mandate and parliamentary approval; Macron confirmed that French naval forces, including the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, could be partially redeployed in support of the mission. Notably, the coalition extends beyond NATO member states to include India and South Korea, with the aim of amplifying diplomatic pressure and restoring free navigation as swiftly as possible.

The video is therefore disinformation, fabricated with the intent of undermining trust among NATO allies and sowing division between the United States and Europe.
