This quote was made up by propagandists. Dmytro Kuleba never made such statements. Recently, he publicly discussed increasing the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, confiscating the frozen Russian assets and the death of Russian opposition leader Oleksiy Navalny.

Russian news sources, as well as social network users, are spreading a quote attributed to the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba, where he allegedly proposed to rename Avdiyivka to Prague. Such a decision will «lead to enforce Article 5 of the NATO charter; the member states of the alliance will be forced to start a war with Russia».

«They should start calling Ukraine Germany», ironically remark social media users.

In reality, this is yet another made-up statement that Russian propaganda attributes to Ukrainian civil servants, politicians or activists to spread disinformation and discredit Ukraine in the eyes of its partners. Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba never made such absurd proposals. The mentioned quote is not found on his social media pages or any official communication channels. Neither the international nor Ukrainian mass media wrote about it. The fake quote was shared only by Russian Telegram channels and social media users.

The minister wrote about Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the application of Article 5 of the Charter in his article, where he argued that Ukraine should become a member:

“Ukraine seeks to join NATO and receive the protection of Article 5, which provides that an armed attack on one or more allies in Europe or North America is considered an attack on them all, and obliges them to commit actions that will be considered necessary, including with the use of armed force in order to restore and maintain security in the North Atlantic region. Who would not seek such protection in our place? But we are realists. We do not seek to draw the United States or other NATO countries into war. This is our war, and we are successfully fighting it with the generous support of our partners and allies.”

What Dmytro Kuleba really talked about recently was the need to increase supplies of artillery shells to Ukraine, continued support for Ukraine, the situation on the Ukrainian-Polish border, steps towards the confiscation of Russia’s frozen assets, as well as the death of Russian opposition leader Oleksiy Navalny. On February 16-17, the minister took part in the 60th Munich Security Conference, one of the key topics of which is countering Russian aggression and consolidating support for Ukraine from international partners.
Previously, StopFake debunked the words attributed to Dmytro Kuleba that Europe is allegedly not ready to compete with Russia in the defense sphere.
