The President of Ukraine did not make such statements. Zelenskyy only noted that Russia “does not yet feel that the whole world is against it.” The resolution “Aggression against Ukraine” in the UN General Assembly was supported by 141 countries, and only five delegations – Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Syria, and Eritrea – voted against it.

Russian media spread a manipulative story based on an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the British The Sun. Taking the words out of context, the Russian media claimed that most of the world “supports” Russian aggression, and that Ukraine’s interests are defended by “at best 14 countries.” Also, pro-Kremlin media outlets relied on Zelenskyy’s interview to claim that he allegedly recognized “Ukraine’s inability to resist the military actions waged by Russia.”

In an interview with The Sun, the Ukrainian president accused Putin of “stirring up fires” around the world that risk getting out of control, adding that a Hamas attack on Israel was Russia’s “best dream.” According to Zelenskyy, Russia plans to continue destabilizing the world, and the Balkans may be next. “This situation will continue until the Russian regime is stopped and punished,” Zelensky said.

Zelenskyy did note that Russia “does not yet feel that the whole world is against it,” but the Ukrainian president did not say that most of the world “supports” Russian aggression.

The international community does not support Russia’s war against Ukraine. The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly condemned Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine: 141 countries supported the resolution “Aggression against Ukraine” in the UN General Assembly, and only five delegations – Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Syria and Eritrea – voted against it.

In addition, on November 23, 2022, the European Parliament voted in favor of a resolution declaring Russia a state sponsor of terrorism for its large-scale invasion of Ukraine. A month earlier, on October 13, 2022, the PACE adopted a resolution that also declared the Russian regime a terrorist regime. In addition, on October 13, 2023, PACE recommended that the member states of the Council of Europe recognize Putin as illegitimate after the end of his current presidential term and cut ties with him.

All of these decisions by international institutions are consequences of Russian aggression, and they also clearly demonstrate the unprecedented support for Ukraine by leading democratic countries.

In this interview, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not make any statements about Ukraine’s “inability” to resist Russia, as the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been successfully doing so for the past 10 years, since the beginning of Russian aggression in 2014.
