Aviation expert Valery Romanenko did not make such claims during an interview with the NTA TV channel. On the contrary, both Ukraine and foreigners emphasize the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense increasing significantly since the full-scale war with Russia began (up to 80%).

Several pro-Kremlin sources published the news about Ukraine allegedly admitting the Ukrainian Forces are incapable of countering Russian missiles. Ukrainian aviation expert Valery Romanenko reportedly stated this on the air of the Lviv TV channel NTA.

‘Russian military resources are constantly being improved and rendering our countermeasures against the enemy is useless,’ – these words are attributed to the Ukrainian expert by the propaganda website Polytnavigator.

In reality, such conclusions of the Ukrainian expert were made up, since the aviation expert Valery Romanenko did not make such claims during his interview with the NTA TV channel.

The host of the Great Lviv Speaks program on the NTA TV channel asked him whether the tactics of Russian missile strikes had changed in any way. Answering this question, Valery Romanenko spoke about Russian weapons being improved and attempting to resist radar systems.

‘They are constantly improving something. For instance, as for the X-101 missile, it has been improved in two ways: first, the navigation system. It is now additionally guided by an improved optical device. It scans the area below it and compares it with a reference and adjusts if necessary. The accuracy achieved, according to the Russians themselves, is about 10 meters to the target. This is the first moment. The second point is that they installed anti-radar systems on these missiles and a radio jamming system. There is a very simple system, similar to a cartridge from a hunting rifle. It fires when the radar irradiates wire clippings. And these clippings for a minute or two, until they fall, create a kind of curtain for the missile and make it invisible to the radar for a certain time. And if the missile makes a maneuver at this time, it may leave the radar’s observation area and in this way the monitoring of its flight will be lost,’ Valery Romanenko said. Thus, the expert’s answer did not imply inability of the Ukrainian military to resist such means of destruction.

On the contrary, both Ukrainian and foreign experts emphasize the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense increasing significantly since the full-scale war with Russia began (up to 80%).

‘If we analyze the daily numbers presented by the Air Force Command, we can see that the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense in rear, peaceful areas reaches 70-80%. This is more than the glorified Iron Dome in Israel. And it should be considered, that the missiles with which Israel is fired at and those which Russia uses to kill Ukrainian civilians are on completely different technological levels. And the results Ukrainian Air Defense Forces are demonstrating are just fantastic,’ said journalist and former Ukrainian serviceman Viktor Bishchuk on the Espresso channel.

‘Ukrainian air defenses are composed of a hodgepodge of Soviet-era weapons and more modern Western systems supplied by countries like the US, Germany and the United Kingdom, with each requiring their own specialized training. Ukrainians decide where to position assets, Hecker said, and have been able to effectively defend their airspace despite challenges inherent in fielding several different types of weapon systems’, Breaking Defence writes.
